Ori Tahiti Workshop Series2018 - APRIL 28 & 29 - New York City
Joëlle Berg is a tenured master of Ori Tahiti, having over 30 years of experience. Originally from the island of Moorea, Joëlle received her initial training with Temaeva and competed with them professionally for a decade before receiving her certification for Dance and Traditional Studies at the Conservatoire Artistique de la Polynesie (Te Fare Upa Rau). Over the last 16 years, Joëlle has translated her knowledge and experience by teaching and choreographing pieces for various groups including Temaeva and Toareva, and served as a distinguished judge on the jury panel for Heiva i Paris.
Today, Joëlle is the founder of the Te Hura Te Heiva Montreal, the first Heiva ever to be held on the Eastern Seaboard since 2017. We are honored to host Joëlle Berg , ambassador of Air Tahiti Nui, by helping her spread the joy of Ori Tahiti through this exciting series of workshops. |
Basics / Dance Technique Workshop
Duration: 2 hours Focusing on the foundation of Ori, this workshop targets basic steps and their variations through drills in an effort to improve overall technique, ability, coordination, and stamina. Whether you are a seasoned dancer looking to strengthen your basics or a novice wanting to build a foundation, all will find a challenge in this session. Otea Choreography Workshop Duration: 2 hours This iconic, fast paced, and rhythmic style of dance utilizes the body to tell a story through the choreography, requiring coordination and a command of basic steps. * moré & ii not required, but recommended for a full fun experience. Aparima Choreography Workshop Duration: 2 hours Aparimas tell stories through both song and dance. They are usually somewhat slower paced and softer in movement, but no less difficult and exhibit a strong central theme. |
Fa'arapu Workshop
Duration: 2 hours This intense workshop is designed specifically to improve and understand how to work your fa'arapu for you. Start by learning strategic stretching techniques specifically for Ori Tahiti and Fa'arapu work. Then jump into core work by focusing on gaining the proper posture based on your individual body type and structure in order to accomplish the most organic circular fa'arapu. Drills will focus on: speed, how to control stillness of the body while doing the fa'arapu, how to combine fa'arapu, fa'arori, and other steps while using the correct weight shift * Please bring a yoga mat because some stretching exercises will be completed on the floor (calf muscles , hip flexors, hamstrings, back stretches) |
